A tattoo is a unique work of art, and that’s how they are sold by the country’s many tattooists. That’s why it’s rare to see tattoo artists charging generic prices for their tattoos. However, below you will find a guide to what you can expect in terms of price, as well as what you should consider in relation to the price of your next tattoo.
Once you have spent money on a nice tattoo, it is essential that you take care of it. With aftercare you can ensure that the quality is as good as possible.
The price of tattoos is regulated by the experience of the tattooist
Like so much else in life, there is a difference in quality when it comes to tattoos. It is clear that a tattoo artist with 20 years of experience has some skills that someone with five has not yet learned. This also means, of course, that prices are adjusted accordingly. It’s only a natural thing.
Therefore, you can say that there are five categories of tattooists:
- Students/beginners.
- Tattoo artists with 3-5 years of experience.
- Tattoo artists with 5-10 years of experience.
- Tattoo artists with 10+ years of experience.
- Popular tattoo artists.
In the tattoo business, you build a reputation. Good publicity means more customers, and people naturally talk to each other when they need a recommendation from a skilled and professional tattoo artist. The five categories listed above determine what hourly rate a tattoo artist can afford to charge. A student will usually charge 500-800 DKK per hour, whereas a popular and well-established tattoo artist will charge a minimum of around 1200 DKK per hour.
Do you need sleeves or other larger motifs made?
Then you can start calculating it yourself. For example, if you need a full sleeve made, you can expect it to take upwards of 30-60 hours. If you need larger designs – such as a sleeve – it’s a good idea to talk to your tattoo artist. The bigger and more demanding your tattoo, the more likely it is that you can get a discount on the total price. It may also be an idea to look at different anesthetic cream options to make the experience as painless as possible.
